April showers

“That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil” (Deuteronomy 11:14).

Rain in due season is always orchestrated by God. Judea received a first rain when the fields were sown in November, causing the seeds to vegetate. In April, the latter rains came to perfect the crops for harvest. If there was no former rain, or if the latter rain did not fall in due season, there was no harvest. It was through their obedience, God blessed them with the rain, and it was not a random or incidental event.

So we look for the latter rain. However, it’s up to God as to when it’s the season for the latter rain. The seed had to have been planted, the former rain had to have fallen and now, harvest is near and we look for the latter rain.

Rain comes as a result of obedience to God.

“For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations” (Isaiah 61:11).

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.

Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God” (2 Corinthians 9:8-11).

“And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace” (James 3:18).

Peace, peace, wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray
In fathomless billows of love!
