June Borum, 77, of Athens, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019.
She was retired from South Central Bell and AT&T after 30 years of service, and a very active member of Telephone Pioneers. After her retirement, she volunteered and donated to many different organizations in McMinn County because she loved people. Two of her favorite local organizations she volunteered faithfully with were Friendly Fellows Food Baskets and signing up new voters during voter registration. But she will be best known for her smile and friendliness to patrons who came to eat at the Gondolier Restaurant. For the last 30 years, she has been a regular during lunch and supper with a table reserved by the door.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Cora Roach Snider; husband of 54 years, Robert “Bob” Borum; son, Scott Borum; brothers: Charles Edward and Kenneth Howard Snider; and sisters: Hazel Ison and Elizabeth “Liz” Smith.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Joshua Borum of Windfall, Ind., Sarah (Nick) Begley of Tipton, Ind., and Abby Borum (Jon Munns) of Leigh High, Fla.; great-grandchildren: Collin and Gavin Begley of Tipton, Ind. and Jentry, Keelan and Ellie Munns of Leigh High, Fla.; twin brother, Robert “Bob” (Sandra) Snider of Cleveland; sister-in-law, Bertha Snider of Athens, nephews: Steve (Tracy) Riden of Lenoir City, Pat (Susan) Smith of Athens and Phillip (Vanessa) Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; nieces: Jean (John) Tarpley of Gatlinburg, Susan (Mark) Evans of Delano, Barbie (Terry) Martin of Athens and special niece, who she thought of as a daughter, Anne (Damon) Cotter of Athens.
The family will receive friends at Smith Funeral Home today, March 26, 2019, from 5 until 7 p.m., with the funeral at 7 p.m. Bro. Jerry Stevens and the Rev. Jimmy McCarter will officiate.
The family will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday and go in procession to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 11 a.m. committal service.
A register book will be setup at the Gondolier this week. Please stop by and leave your memories of June for the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in June’s name to the Help Heal Veterans Organization, 36585 Penfield Lane, Winchester, CA 92596.
